DESIGN CHALLENGE

​These clients purchased a spacious home with a great layout and even a finished basement.  The problem?  The former homeowners last decorated in the 1990's when mauve was the cat's meow and frilly floral draperies were the epitome of style. 
​

• Fast forward 20 years to our clients' purchasing the house - they selected the house based on its warmth, most clearly articulated in the rich stained wood moldings. 
• But upon moving in, this couple realized that most of their new home didn't reflect their personalities and lifestyle. 
• While empty nesters, this was a close family with four adult children visiting overnight frequently.  
• Our goal?  Modernize the home's fixtures and finishes while retaining the warm details that the couple prized. ​

DESIGN SOLUTION
​

• Out of a desire to begin with a ​fresh palette, the clients hadn't brought much furniture from their former house.  We began with selecting the furniture pieces that would allow their family spaces to seat up to eight people, while still feeling cozy when the clients were just the two of them. 
• After selecting furniture pieces, we freshened the spaces with an entire new color palette, fresh paint, fresh carpeting, and new lighting. 
• In the basement Man Cave, we enhanced the architecture by adding square paneled columns to enclose the current small metal posts that screamed "Basement!" 
• The outdated and quite tiny powder room was completely remodeled, inspired by a gorgeous crema marfil mosaic floor. 

• The Master Bedroom became a soft retreat with new furniture, bedding, and draperies.  As a surprise, we had a custom patchwork ottoman and bed bolster made from leftover fabric made to decorate this room. 
• The Living Room and Dining Room received fresh batik-print draperies and modern sheers, as well as a deep indigo color palette that was perfectly set off by a gorgeous traditional area rug. 
• The Family Room was enhanced with new built-in bookcases, a very comfortable sleeper sofa, and two ottomans that doubled as coffee tables. 
• And the Guest Bedroom received fresh draperies and blackout blinds while brand new and fun pillows gave an existing bed quilt cover a new lease on life.
